That Was Harder Than I Thought

A number of years ago, a designer friend and I decided to start our own stock photography business consisting of studio headshots of regular people. The journey was a tough one—especially before online tools and fully matured eCommerce solutions. We did all the things that you are supposed to do (any many you should not). We created a business plan, secured some funding and set up our organization. We found some amazing folks to work and went full speed after our goals.

We managed to build a beautiful library of images, got the attention of the major stock market companies and learned a ton along the way. Although we covered our initial costs, it was a tough business model to sustain and we put the business in a state of hibernation until we were able to regroup and try again.

Fast forward to 2022, and I am pleased to say that our little idea has found new life. By taking advantage of new tools, more advanced eCommerce solutions, a more streamlined workflows, a global talent network—and many, late nights and weekends, Foto Sushi has returned.

We are delighted to “re-share” this resource to the creative community and look forward to the years to come.

The lesson here: If you’ve got a hankering for an idea, don’t give up.
