Good Design Roots
Call me crazy, but I believe that principles of composition that are found in classic paintings can be applied to design layout. Simply put, master painters understood things like; division of format, the rule of thirds and, color theory. Today’s viewers have limited knowledge of fine art and how it relates to composition, but they do sense if the layout feels right or not. In a world of analytics, composition isn’t a data point that can be easily be measured, but is rooted in design trends that date back hundreds of years and our instinctual connection with quality.
